Occupational health is the promotion and maintenance of physical
and mental health in the work environment. An occupational health nurse
assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing
care plans, and maintain medical records. A occupational health nurse typically
administers care to patients in an out patient hospital or clinical environment.
May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide
case management. Occupational health nursing is practiced by nurses who
have specialized formal, post-secondary education and who function in highly
autonomous and specialized roles.
